Sum It Up! Thurman does an excellent job in telling a story. Doubletake is just another added treasure among the entire Cal Leandros saga.

Half-human/half-monster Cal Leandros knows that family is a pain. But now that pain belongs to his half-brother, Niko. Niko's shady father is in town, and he needs a big favor. Even worse is the reunion being held by the devious Puck race-including the Leandros' friend, Robin- featuring a lottery that no Puck wants to win.

As Cal tries to keep both Niko and Robin from paying the ultimate price for their kin, a horrific reminder from Cal's own past arrives to remind him that blood is thicker than water-and that's why it's so much more fun to spill. (Goodreads)

Review:
Rob Thurman creates such complex characters with Cal and Niko that you become invested in their lives. The bond these brothers have for each other, despite all of the circumstances, shows the reader how much they have grown since book 1.  Now the dynamic is changing. The relationship between Cal and Niko becomes the focus ofDoubletake. Niko’s father shows up hunting a monster called Janus. Janus hunts and kills those with Vayash blood, which means the brothers are in danger. Add in Grimm, a half-Auphe who needs Cal to help rebuild the Auphe race and you have the makings of an interesting family tale. Cal begins to see all that Niko has given up to protect him. As the story progresses readers see that nothing or no one will ever come between the brothers through flashbacks, which may leave some readers in an emotional state.

Although Thurman’s writing continues to grow and mature through each book, there were some issues with cohesiveness throughout the book. Some characters should have had a stronger presence within the book, such as Robin and Kalakos. This would have aided in showing more depth in certain relationships, especially the relationship with Niko and Kalakos. Even with these flaws, Thurman does an excellent job in telling a story. Doubletake is just another added treasure among the entire Cal Leandros saga.

  1. I like male authors because they strip down the characters to the bare essentials. No weeping females, lingering looks and lip biting. It's just basic reactions and emotions and no over thinking stuff.
