Ever since her ex-boyfriend spread lies about her, Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys - the ones she doesn't want. Then she saves Chris Merrick from a beating in the school parking lot. Chris is different. Way different: he can control water - just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. They're powerful. Dangerous. Marked for death.

And now that she knows the truth, so is Becca.

When Hunter, the mysterious new kid in town, turns up with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time, Becca thinks she can trust him. But then Hunter goes head-to-head with Chris, and Becca wonders who's hiding the most dangerous truth of all... (Amazon)

Brigid Kemmerer is a fabulous new voice in the paranormal YA genre. STORM is crafted with such an original take on elementals, that readers will be captivated. Becca has problems that, unfortunately, many teenage girls are experiencing today. Her ruined reputation makes her a bit wary of boys and people in general; her personality is guarded significantly making it hard for readers to get to know her in the beginning. Chris himself is very guarded, but enough backstory is told early for readers to get a good sense of his personality. In the background (or really stealing some of the lime light), are Chris' brothers, Becca's best friend Quinn, and the new kid, Hunter. Readers will enjoy reading about the side cast almost as much as Becca and Quinn! The brothers are charming, and Quinn has just enough bad a** in her to balance out Becca's meek personality. The plot is somewhat slow to start, but after readers get a taste of what Chris' family is all about, the story picks up and the book is even harder to put down! Original, funny, and romantic this is the series that YA fans have been waiting for. I am so glad I will hopefully be receiving an ARC of SPARK (book 2) because I cannot wait to find out what happens next SPARK hits stores in August 28, 2012.
