Hunger Games: The Book or The Movie?

In September 2008 The Hunger Games book was released andcaused quite frenzy among readers. Suzanne Collins delivered a riveting taleset in the young adult genre that has distributed over 2.9 million copies inprint and over 1 million eBooks making her currently the best-selling author onKindle of all time. Along with being on NY Times bestseller’s list for over 100consecutive weeks, add in numerous awards such as Publisher’s Weekly “Best Bookof the Year” for 2008 and NY Times “Notable Children’s Book” in 2008.

 Many readers werebeyond curious as to how Collins came up with the concept of this post-apocalypticworld told in the perspective of a kick-ass teenage heroine who has to fightfor her life against other teenagers. In response she admitted the idea camefrom the comforts of her home while channel surfing between a competitionreality show and coverage of the war. So, there you have it.

In March of 2009 Lions Gate Entertainment acquired worldwidedistribution rights and the films adaptation was co-written and co-produced byCollins herself. Giving $75 million to this project they set out to find thebest actor’s to fit these roles, especially the perfect “Katniss” who wouldhave to endure an extensive amount of training in archery, rock and treeclimbing, combat, running and yoga.

After many auditions the cast is as follows.

As readers waited with anticipation to see this movie thetrailer hit the air ways attracting the attention of many people. After theentire Twilight buzz they were curious to see something new and fresh and thisintrigued many to go buy the book in which led to reading the entire trilogy.Once the movie hit the theaters it is confirmed to be the biggest box officedebut for a non sequel film. As of April 1st The Hunger Games hasearned an estimated $356 million worldwide.

The critics as well as movie goers are blown away with howwonderful this movie is! It does the book justice and is delivered perfectly.Jennifer Lawrence was born to play the role of Katniss Everdeen, and we are allhighly anticipating what she brings to the character in the sequels. Rumor hasit their will be 4 movies, breaking the last book into 2 parts; however, this isnot confirmed by the studio. The sequel, Catching Fire, is to hit theaters inNovember 2013. So yes, we have quite some time until the next movie…but as thesaying goes-the best things are worth the wait!
