Roderick Gideon Tremayne, the recently appointed Duke of Wentworth, never expected to find himself in New York City, tracking down a mysterious map important to his late mother. And he certainly never expected to be injured, only to wake up with no memory of who he is. But when he sees the fiery-haired beauty who's taken it upon herself to rescue him, suddenly his memory is the last thing on his mind.

Georgia Milton, the young head of New York's notorious Forty Thieves, feels responsible for the man who was trying to save her bag from a thief. But she's not prepared for the fierce passion he ignites within her. When his memory begins to return, her whole world is threatened, and Roderick must choose between the life he forgot and the life he never knew existed. (Goodreads)

It all begins with a chance meeting on the street between a fancy Brit disillusioned with himself and society, and a poor widow working herself to the bone trying to escape to a better life. In her he sees a fire he wishes to possess. In him she sees a man worth giving her heart to. Can they be what the other needs?

Roderick is a man after a book lover’s heart. When struck with amnesia the identity he clings to is a character from a famous book. And he only gets better from there. You get to see from his point of view, all the ugly deceitfulness that is high society. For a while you almost wish for him to stay in New York or run away to the west. Then you meet his father, end up caring for the old man and realize sometimes you really can’t ignore your duty.

Georgia is a truly colorful character, tough on the outside with a soft heart guarded on the inside. When given the story from her point of view, she lends humor to the stuffy Brit and towards her life in general. For many a life that would make them throw-up their hands and settle with being miserable. But not Georgia, she is an amazing woman who decides she can tackle anything for the price of loving a good man. For all her efforts it will make you smile at how she handles her success near the end of the book.

Marvelle has hit this one out of the park. She has created the perfect blend of humor, heartache, conspiring, and forgiveness. The plot line is perfectly paced out and has wonderful little surprises that will have you reading as fast as possible. Her characters are incredibly well written; they feel so real you will be pulled into their lives immediately. This is a wonderful beginning to The Rumor series, make sure to mark this as a must read.
