When killing people is your job, there’s no such thing as a vacation.

Then again, how often does an assassin live long enough to enjoy her retirement? In this line of work, you either get lucky or you get dead. And since I destroyed my nemesis Mab Monroe a few weeks ago, all of Ashland’s lowlifes are gunning to make a name for themselves by taking out the lethal Spider—me, Gin Blanco. So I’m leaving behind my beloved barbecue joint and heading south with my baby sister, Bria, to cool my heels in a swanky beach town. Call it a weekend of fun in the sun. But when a powerful vampire with deadly elemental magic threatens an old friend of Bria’s, it looks like I’ll have to dig my silverstone knives out of my suitcase after all. Complicating matters further is the reappearance of Detective Donovan Caine, my old lover. But Donovan is the least of my problems. Because this time, the danger is hot on my trail, and not even my elemental Ice and Stone magic may be enough to save me from getting buried in the sand—permanently. (Goodreads)

Estep never fails to impress! She is still delivering a fresh, creative and action pact storyline that will leave the readers patiently awaiting the next installment to the series!

I was curious as to where Estep would take the reader, next since the biggest threat to Gin in previous books was finally taken out in a big showdown of power. Well...she gives us more then I had hoped for! As Gin is dealing with bad guys around every corner who want to take out the notorious Spider, she decides to take a weekend getaway with her sister Bria. She gets to meet one of Bria's friends who are dealing with some secrets of her own. One thing Gin will not stand for is innocent’s life at stake so she sets out to help, in the way she does best, taking care of the bad guys. However, Gin kind of gets neck deep (no pun intended) with a vampire but that is only one problem as her ex lover the oh so sexy Donovan Caine seems to have relocated to the same town Gin is visiting.

By a Thread is filled with emotions, action, romance and a grab you by the seat storyline! It is recommended to all the followers of this series. If you have not had the chance to jump in this awesome series it is recommended to start at the beginning with Spider's Bite!
