Sum It Up! Courtney Summers uses a very dark and gritty tone that does the novel beautiful justice.

It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up. As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actuallywant to live. But as the days crawl by, the motivations for survival change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life—and death—inside. When everything is gone, what doyou hold on to? (Amazon)

I am not a huge zombie post Apocalypse fan, so This is Not a Test must have been very good! Courtney Summers uses a very dark and gritty tone that does the novel beautiful justice. Many authors who attempt to do such make the book come across as depressing. Summer's does just enough to make you feel.

Sloane is an interesting protagonist. She is depressed and does not want to live. As a matter of fact, she is continuously attempting suicide; however, she is the one who remains alive through it all. The concept is fresh, and I think that choosing Sloane was a bold, but good, choice for Summers to make.

This is Not a Test is creepy and full of emotion and suspense. It is defiantly not your typical young adult novel. Even if you, like me, are not into zombies, I would defiantly give This is Not a Test a go!
