Sum It Up! This novel surpassed my expectations with its well developed plot that contains divergent characters, intense mystery, and a budding romance.

He’s a fallen angel. She’s a rockabilly reporter. Together they must solve a deadly string of murders plaguing the mortal and the immortal worlds.

Griffin Shaw used to be a PI, but that was over fifty years ago when gumshoes hoofed the streets . . . and he was still alive. Now he’s a Centurion, an angel who assists other murdered souls through their journey to the afterlife. But while Shaw might be an angel … he’s no saint. Haunted by the mysterious events surrounding his own death, he seizes a chance to wreak some vengeance when he witnesses a deadly attack on journalist Katherine “Kit” Craig.

Joining forces, the unlikely avengers take to the streets, hunting a killer whose trail of bodies stretches across Las Vegas and into an immortal netherworld. It is a dangerous trek that lead them into the darkest corners of Sin City and into the heart of an evil conspiracy extending beyond the lights of the Strip that could destroy them both.  But destruction isn’t the only threat Griffin faces. The closer he gets to Kit, the more he finds himself bewitched by her mortal charms. Can he resist falling under her spell? And does he want to?  (Goodreads)

Review:
The Taken is the first installment to the Celestial Blues trilogy by the amazing Vicki Pettersson. This novel surpassed my expectations with its well developed plot that contains divergent characters, intense mystery, and a budding romance. Pettersson's writing is that of an old pro as the words flow like a fine wine and the scene's to her story are built to grab the reader, in which comparing her to the likes of Kim Harrison and Charlene Harris.

In The Taken, we are introduced to Griffin Shaw who was murdered fifty years ago and now is a Centurion, sent to help spirits pass on but he is still struggling with his and his wife's untimely death. Upon a mess up on one of his Takes, he ends up back in human skin and is sent on a mission to fix his mistake by having to Take Katherine (Kit) Craig. Kit is a reporter who fashions herself in the rockabilly lifestyle but to  keep her families newspaper afloat she sets out on a case that could end up being a major headline but in the process ends up losing someone near and dear to her heart. Determined to find her answers she teams up with the stranger (Grif) who happens to save her life but in return she has to help him with a cold case.

As the story unfolds we are taken thru an emotional roller- coaster ride with love, loss, regret, and determination that is guaranteed to grab the audience’s attention. Sounds good doesn't it? You bet it is! You will be taken with The Taken!
