When she’s sent to a crime scene and finds her second dead woman in as many weeks, half-banshee detective Kiera “Mac” McLoughlin is convinced a serial killer is on the loose. Incubi are extinct, her boss insists. But what else can kill a woman in the throes of pleasure? When her partner is murdered after using witchcraft to locate the killer and Mac is thrown off the case, her frustration turns to desperation.

Certain the killer is an incubus, Mac works behind her department’s back to chase down slim, sometimes perilous leads. While the killer eludes her, she does discover handsome Aidan Byrne, an investigative counterpart from the enigmatic Otherworlder Enforcement Agency. Mac typically runs her investigations fast and hard, but with Aidan at her side, she’s running this one “hot” as well. But Aidan knows more than he’s letting on—something that could shatter their blazing romance and add Mac to the killer’s growing body count…  (Goodreads)

I was originally lured to this book for very obvious reasons; the name of the author (duh) and the fact that it was about incubi.  Allee's view of incubi is dead on with their true nature; death by sex.  Their victims literally die with a smile on their face.

The heroine of this book is half-banshee half-human who works for a select department of the police force who deal with the creatures who go bump in the night.  On the hunt for the creature that has been killing single, unwittingly willing females, her partner included.  When a drop dead, sexy, extremely male breaks into her apartment claiming to be with the equivalent of the CIA for otherworlders offers to help her with her case, she just may invite her into her bed and heart as well.

While Banshee Charmer was extremely well written, it was entirely too predictable for my tastes.  Maybe I just read too much, but everything that happened I saw coming from a mile away.  Readers who enjoy a laid back book, or would just like to take a small taste into the paranormal world will enjoy this book.  Hardcore Paranormal fans like myself, maybe not so much.  Don't get me wrong, this book made for great potential for a fantastic new series, but only if there is more action and a lot less predictability in the next installment.
