NRR- Let me start with a huge thank
you for taking the time to join us! Can you share how you decided to write in
the Urban Fantasy genre?
I love to read urban fantasy, so it
was a natural step to write it. The genre has really come into its own in the last
few years, and there are so many great books out there for fans. As a writer I
often wish I had more time to read in my own genre!
NRR- What would you say is the most
challenging part of being a author?
The great part is making your own
hours, but that's also the most challenging part. You have to really be
motivated to make a schedule and stick to it, especially when other things come
in, like edits on a book you've already completed. I have a set number of pages
that I like to write each week and if I miss my page count one day then I try
to make it up another day.
I don't ever want to fall too far behind, because missing a deadline makes a lot of extra work for your editor.

NRR- Being a fan of the Madeline
Black series I must ask,how were you inspired to write her character?
I wanted to write a story about the
Grim Reaper, and I originally thought the main character would be male -
someone a lot like Gabriel, actually. For me, all characters start from voice,
and I heard Maddy before I saw her. I heard her talking to Beezle in my head.
Once I heard her voice the story became Maddy's story, and she became an Agent
of death.
NRR- Madeline has been dealt some
issues when it comes to romance. Will we see any resolve in Black Howl?
No, things definitely get more
complicated! Gabriel is Maddy's thrall now, so things are not going to be easy
for them going forward.
NRR- What is your guilty pleasure?
Eighties synth pop music, watching
"Man vs. Food" on the Travel Channel, eating giant cinnamon rolls.
NRR- Can you share with us the
storyline to Black Howl? Of course no spoilers.
Ghosts are popping up all over Chicago,
and these ghosts have not had their deaths foreseen by the Agency. That means
that they are outside of the natural order, and something big and bad is
lurking around. As an added complication, Maddy's friend Wade (the alpha
of the werewolf pack from BLACK NIGHT) has been kidnapped and Jude's asked
Maddy to help find him. Oh, and Lucifer has been hanging around trying to trap
Maddy into becoming the heir to his kingdom, which Maddy is definitely not
interested in.
NRR- What can fans expect to see
from you next?
There will be at least three more
books in the BLACK WINGS series, including the fourth book BLACK LAMENT, which
will be released on October 30th, 2012.
Thanks so much for having me here!
